Wall Putty: How And Why to Use It?
There
are options for the wall in the market. But, here we are discussing only wall
putty; how and why to use it.
Wall
putty
Wall
putty applied by Painting Contractors Toronto is like a magical paste that
can cover all the scars and digs of your walls. Apply putty before painting no
one will ever know, what was inside. Mainly, wall putties are of two types;
spackling and joint compound. Both have their features and one can use them
according to their needs. The main base of differentiation between these two is
project scope, drying time and shrinkage.
·
Spackle
Sparkle
has the consistency of fluffy toothpaste. It is a mixture of gypsum powder and
binders (sometimes mixed with a little vinyl) and is used by Painting
Contractors Toronto to repair small dents and holes. It offers quicker dry time than
any other putties and shrinks less. You can fill the holes in one coat and
paint over it at the same time.
·
Joint compound
It is
like drywall mud, used to fill bigger holes. It is a mixture of
gypsum-and-water and has the consistency of cake frosting. It offers longer
drying times and a tendency to shrink. You will need to wait at least 24-48
hours before painting.
How
to apply a wall putty
As suggested by Residential Painters
in the GTA, keep your
putty always covered while you are not using it. Make the mud what you need for
your job and work quickly. For drywall
or plaster, or holes less than a half-inch, use readymade sparkle. Start by removing the loose drywall. Apply a thin coat of sparkle
using a putty knife. Scrape off the extra sparkle. Let it dry. Apply another
coat if needed. Sand gently to wipe up dust and apply paint.
Need to bigger holes, choose a mud putty with Residential Painters in the GTA that takes a quite long time to dry. Use a joint compound equipped
with backing material made for aluminium that will give proper binding.
Loosen
the surface near the hole. Apply the mesh covering the hole properly. Smooth
the surface. Let it dry. Apply another cost if needed. Same the surface and
apply paint.
